Types of Solar Panels
There are different types of solar panels that directly convert solar energy into energy. Solar heating systems can be open, where heated water passes directly through the roof or enclosed collectors which are filled with fluid that does not freeze (glycol, antifreeze) and can be used at outside temperatures below zero.
During a sunny day, water can only be heated in collectors, and if the weather is not nice, the collectors help to cool down and thus save power consumption.
Flat (Standard) solar collectors absorb the sun’s energy and use warm water or water to warm the space. Solar systems save energy and contribute to environmental conservation. Such systems absorb solar energy, heat air or heat-transferring liquids, and deliver it to the workpiece (water) or directly into the heated space. The most important technical element of any active solar heating or storage water system is a solar collector that absorbs and collects solar energy and converts it into heat.
Flat (standard) solar collectors require high temperature, they are constructed as flat plates and are used where there is a satisfactory working fluid temperature (water) which does not exceed 95 ° C, mainly for DHW heating and pools. Medium-sized collectors are most commonly used indirectly for hot water for residential and commercial use and for cooking, disinfection and desalinization.
Plaster (parabolic) collectors
They are mainly built within large solar surfaces (power plants), consisting of long series of parabolic mirrors (or lenses) curved around only one axis and plate solar collectors above them. Mirroring is performed only when the sun’s position changes in the vertical direction, while in parallel shift it is not necessary because the sunlight continues to fall on the plate collectors.
Due to moving mechanisms, servicing is required, and the whole system requires rotation around two axes and a set of parabolic mirrors, which ultimately reflects on the total cost effectiveness of this solar parabolic system. As the Sun changes its position throughout the day, it is necessary to install a position monitoring system, such as lenses or mirrors, in order not to change the focus.
