Clear Solar Cells

We at Solar Electric Texas, in keeping up with innovation and the possibilities that may expand not only our universe but yours as well, thought we could share some of the goings on in the world of the study of solar and the newest research at MIT on clear solar cells. Remember, none of this is our research, it’s really people with PHD’s and sometimes use words most of us don’t understand, so let’s get started.

So it looks as though, MIT researchers are making transparent solar cells that could turn everyday products such as windows and electronic devices into power generators—without altering how they look or function today. How can they do this? We want to know as much as you do. These newest solar cells absorb only infrared and ultraviolet light. That allows visible light to pass  through the cells unblocked, without our eyes even noticing that they are there. Though this seems almost improbable, I like to think of it as a glass heat capture device. Scientist at MIT have used room temperature test to run light through these devices that have deposits and coatings of their solar cells on different materials and have used them to run electronic displays. It seems there proven theory could be used on a skyscraper, by coating the windows, and those windows alone could possibly create a quarter of the energy used in that building alone.They’re current plan is to add their product to smaller everyday devices such as phones, that could absorb light and recharge your battery.

the beauty of this new technology would be that it could be added to current glass structures as opposed to a replacement of current windows, thus, creating a whole new industry within the solar industry itself.
